One Bowl Chocolate Banana Cake

Need the perfect all-purpose cake? This One Bowl Chocolate Banana Cake is perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a sweet snack and comes together in no time at all!

With this new year, we are in the age of convenience. Many of us are working long hours and have little time to spend with our loved ones. No one wants to spend hours cooking when they could be enjoying some leisure time.

A versatile, quick cake is just what we need to get our spirits up and share with our family. One Bowl Chocolate Banana Cake works well for any gathering, breakfast, dessert, quick snack, or anything in between. It is made from gluten-free flour and whole bananas, so it is a cake that’s actually good for you!

Save your time and energy with this cake, which only uses one bowl for the batter and 30 minutes to cook. That’s it! Plus, you likely already have these items in your pantry. No need to run to the store for unique ingredients!

The Easiest Cake Ever

When we say this is the easiest cake ever, we mean it! It truly is a dump and mix cake, yet is completely from scratch. You get an amazingly sweet, homemade flavor with half of the effort of a traditional cake.

One reason for this is the use of oats and oat flour. Both combined add a lovely texture and flavor without needing to measure out xanthan gum or other binders. The end texture is a cross between baked oats and a sheet cake.

Optionally, you can top this cake with anything you like; peanut butter, Nutella, your favorite frosting, or simply melted chocolate. No matter your favorite flavor combinations, this cake can be customized to the max!

Ingredients in One Bowl Chocolate Banana Cake

  • 3 very ripe bananas, mashed
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 ⅓ cups gluten-free rolled oats
  • ¾ cup gluten-free oat flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup chocolate chips, plus more for topping
  • ¼ cup walnuts, plus more for topping

How to Make One Bowl Chocolate Banana Cake

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 11 by 7-inch baking dish.

Mash your bananas well in a large bowl. Beat in the melted butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla.

In the same bowl, add the oats, oat flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet until a few dry spots of flour remain.

Add the chocolate chips and walnuts. Fold until there are no dry spots of flour left. Do not overmix.

Pour into the greased baking dish. Smooth the top with a spatula. Top with more chocolate chips and nuts.

Bake in a preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out mostly clean with a few crumbs.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.
