What Are French Toast Rolls?

French toast is typically a slice of bread dipped into an eggy custard before searing in a skillet with some butter. It is then served with maple syrup. French toast rolls are similar, but an extra step is taken with the bread to make this recipe extra special.

Before rolling, flatten your slice of bread using a rolling pin. Then, cut off the crusts. Spread a line of cream cheese and stick 5-6 blueberries to it. Roll the bread around the filling and then dunk it into your custard. Now, you have cigar-shaped, stuffed French toast, which is much better than plain French toast!

How to Make Blueberry Cream Cheese French Toast Rolls

Lay a slice of bread on a cutting board and roll it with a rolling pin to flatten. Cut off the crust ends.

Spoon a tablespoon of cream cheese on the bottom ¼ of the bread. Stud the cream cheese with a line of 5-6 blueberries.

Roll the bread over the filling into a cigar shape. Pinch to secure the seam. Repeat with the remaining bread, cream cheese, and blueberries. Be extra careful when rolling, as GF bread can be pretty delicate.

Next, whisk your eggs along with the vanilla, cinnamon, brown sugar, and milk.

Heat a skillet over medium heat. Melt the butter in the pan. Dunk each roll into the custard mixture and place it into the hot pan. Cook the rolls on all sides until browned.

Remove the rolls from the pan. Serve with maple syrup and extra blueberries.
