No-bake desserts are easy enough to make during the week and are delicious enough to eat over and over. One of the most delicious and simple desserts is rice crispy treats, but you can make them even better homemade!

Switch up traditional crispy treats with these Double Chocolate Crispy Treats, made with cocoa cereal, cocoa powder, and chewy marshmallows! These melt-in-your-mouth treats are yummy enough to share with neighbors or classmates. 

Plus, these treats are made in less than 20 minutes. Feel free to use cookie cutters to punch out your favorite shapes for any occasion!

What Cereal Should I Use for These Treats?

It is well-known that you only need a few ingredients for crispy treats, one of them being cereal. Different cereal brands have varying levels of sugar, so you can choose which cereal will be best for you and your family. Obviously, you’ll want a cocoa cereal that is gluten-free.

The cereal I chose for this recipe can be found here. It is a well-known healthy brand of cereal that is very chocolatey and has less bad stuff than other cereal brands. Feel free to use whichever gluten-free cereal you can find!

Ingredients in Double Chocolate Crispy Treats

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 package marshmallows 
  • 1 tablespoon Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 4 cups gluten-free chocolate crisp cereal
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips, optional

How to Make Double Chocolate Crispy Treats

In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat.

Once melted, add the marshmallows and stir until they begin to melt. Also, add the cocoa powder at this stage.

Stir and mix well so that the marshmallows melt and mix with the melted butter and cocoa.

Once everything is melted and homogenous, add the cereal and mix until everything is evenly coated.

Off the heat, stir in the vanilla.

Dump the cereal mixture out onto a parchment-lined baking dish. Press firmly to make an even layer in thickness.

Place the in the fridge for 1-2 hours to firm. When ready, cut into squares or use a greased cookie cutter to cut out desired shapes. To store, place in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
